Prototyping

The team next created a full-scale mock-up of the machine using corrugated cardboard and walked through the interaction scenarios developed in the scenario planning phase. The physical form of the device began to take shape during this phase, informed by results of the team's exploration of the sequence of interactions that users would experience while using the machine, as well as ergonomic and merchandising considerations such as screen height, device dimensions, how and where products would be displayed, and how to display items attractively while keeping them secure. The sliding touchscreen interface, module design and user registration/ verification system were fleshed out as part of this phase.
